The Flip of the Town: The New Yorker Comes to Flipboard

Founded in 1925 as a humor magazine with a literary bent, The New Yorker is known for its definitive, meticulously reported brand of journalism. While humor is still a central part of its repertoire, the magazine includes reporting and commentary on politics, technology, business, foreign affairs, the arts, and popular culture, as well as fiction, poetry, and cartoons. Its contributors are a who’s who of writers ranging from Nobel laureates to newly discovered prodigies.

Today’s launch is especially exciting for us: While newspapers such as The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times have been available to paying subscribers on Flipboard, the legendary New Yorker is the first magazine to be offered on a metered basis. That means you can read a wide selection of stories from the magazine inside Flipboard—everything from Talk of the Town and Shouts & Murmurs to its deep feature well. (Cartoons are coming soon.) The New Yorker has also been paginated and designed for optimal viewing on mobile phones and tablets.

Here’s how it works: If you’re a subscriber, you can start reading the weekly magazine, a daily stream of web-only stories, and archival pieces immediately upon authenticating your account. Simply tap on Accounts –> The New Yorker That’s it!

Non-subscribers can read any New Yorker article—up to six per month—by tapping into the story from the excerpt view. After six stories, readers will have the chance to subscribe for full access. (Don’t worry: We’ll let you know how many freebies you have left.)
