Spotlight: Wine Maker/Entrepreneur Chad Richard
Mia Quagliarello / June 1, 2015
My name is Chad Richard and I am passionate about wine, music, photography, technology and startups. My winery, Furthermore, is an exclusively pinot noir focused label and Flipboard is how I keep up with what’s happening in the world of wine.
I start my day with Flipboard on my iPad catching up on the news in general, before feeding my magazine, Bon Vivant, with my favorite articles related to wine and food. I find myself continually returning to Flipboard throughout the day usually on my iPhone while I am on the go.
The first article I flipped was “What to drink with raw oysters” from SF Gate.
The best article I read all week was about U.S. wine regions with a unique claim to fame. It’s really cool how people are making good wines all over the U.S. and world these days.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is time-lapse photography. There is an amazingly talented community of photographers globally creating gorgeous work.
A magazine that’s made my life better is The Visual News. I love to see what’s happening as opposed to having to read everything. Maybe I’m just lazy!
My biggest influence is great entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and Robert Mondavi. These guys created industries and culture. I also really admire creative forces including filmmakers such as Wes Anderson and David Fincher and musicians like Miles Davis, Thom Yorke, Björk and Neil Young. These artists are able to create something that a large, diverse audience can all really feel and benefit from. That’s cool.
My “media diet” includes Flipboard to navigate the otherwise overwhelming numerous source of news on the web. Wine Spectator and National Geographic are the only magazine subscriptions that I have not migrated to digital delivery. I absolutely love audiobooks and am a big fan of Audible. I am a big music collector—vinyl for jazz and everything else via iTunes, where I tend to be obsessively organized with rating songs and tagging them with genres and making all sorts of smart playlists based on all that metadata. Netflix on my iPad is my source for the minimal TV watching that my wife and I do. Like many other people, I know Game of Thrones, House of Cards and Mad Men top my must-watch list. I can probably live without the rest of television content, especially broadcast news.
A unique productivity tip of mine is I try to share my goals and intentions with others who will help ensure that I make them happen.
