Get Lost in These 5 Cartography Magazines
Jenn de la Vega / February 27, 2015
In the age of smart devices, it’s getting easier to find your way around with GPS and map apps. Map-reading becomes a handy skill when you don’t have access to the Internet. Hundreds of years of cartography and intrepid navigation yielded the very first maps, which were representations of land or space and their relationships to objects.
Here are 5 magazines that both examine maps and the technology that improves them:
Plans & Maps by Jared Bramblett: Maps aren’t only for directions, but presenting data like weather, movement or even income.
City Planner’s Gazette by Charles Warren: Planners chart land use, transportation, sustainability and urban patterns to build cities and their functioning systems.
Smashing Maps by Brian Sims: A collection of visually cool maps and mapping-related articles.
Digital Cartography by intrvls.com: Explore web mapping and cartography through the lens of design and technology with Intrvls, a research cluster at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver.
Maps, Cartography, Navigation and Gis by Alexandra: Fascinating pieces recommended by a real cartographer about GIS or “geographic information systems,” which are designed to show all types of spatial or geographical data.
