My name is Jack Sharman. I’m a lawyer who blogs at White Collar Wire about white-collar criminal defense, crime fiction, cocktails and theology.
My love of narrative led me to all of those topics. Juror, reader, drinker, sinner: everyone needs a good story.
I use Flipboard “inbound” as a newsfeed and “outbound” as an aggregator of articles, blog posts and news items. I have six magazines. They range from the professional (White Collar) to the curious: Noir, for example, is an offshoot of Crime Fiction.
The first article I flipped was an article in The New York Times about the SEC (the market regulator, not the real SEC).
My favorite topic on Flipboard is white-collar crime and government investigations, but I also spend time with film noir and literature, nice resorts and lacrosse.
The best article I’ve read all week was about the jury in the Etan Patz murder trial. I know little of the record in the case, but the jurors in their post-trial interview demonstrated remarkable respect for the process and for each other.
A magazine I found on Flipboard that’s made my life better? I can’t say that any magazine has made my life “better,” but I reflect on the images in Abandoned But Not Forgotten (Gianni Mazzetti), a collection of photographs of abandoned houses, businesses, factories and other structures. It’s like Ecclesiastes for social media.
My media diet consists of Twitter lists, Tumblr, ESPN and work-pertinent blogs such as 500 Pearl Street (Walt Pavlo), White Collar Watch (Professor Peter J. Henning) and White Collar Crime Prof Blog (Professors Ellen S. Podgor and Lucian E. Dervan, and defense lawyers Lawrence S. Goldman and Solomon L. Wisenberg).
Other hits: Rap Sheet (J. Kingston Pierce) (crime fiction), Mockingbird (culture and the theology of grace), Gastronomista (Emily Arden Wells) (cocktails), About Last Night (Terry Teachout and the arts) and After Deadline (Philip B. Corbett) (writing style, usage and grammar from the New York Times). The Daily Office Lectionary, an app that tracks the Anglican cycle of prayer, is a useful tool for early morning meditation and prayer, as is the ESV Bible app. Music comes from Soundhound.
A unique productivity tip of mine is to drink no coffee and review no email before reflecting on what is actually important, rather than what the world tells me is important. (I’m not sure how “unique” that tip is, but it works better than the alternative.)

For ad and marketing execs, Cannes Lions is the event of the year: It’s the world’s largest gathering of advertising, digital and marketing people, with endless deals discussed and debated overlooking the French Riviera. For the rest of us, Cannes Lions is usually enjoyed at a distance through articles, pictures and, of course, on social media.
Author, educator and former CMO Jim Stengel uses the gathering, which starts on Sunday, as an opportunity to give a select group of CMOs and senior marketing directors inspirational and actionable training in their ever-changing landscape.
This year, Jim has also created a resource guide, in the form of a Flipboard Magazine, full of personal tips, packing information, restaurant choices and industry news. Now each of us, with the help of a pro, can become part of the conversation (even if we aren’t there to enjoy a cocktail at a fabulous party overlooking the Riviera).
View the Magazine: How-to: Cannes Lions
Jim’s broader focus is around helping brands center their businesses on the idea of improving people’s lives by “identifying and activating a distinctive ideal” or purpose. He has also created a Flipboard magazine centered around the topic of “Brand Purpose” to highlight the companies who are activating their brand purpose.
View the Magazine: Brand Purpose.
Enjoy Jim’s magazines, and share them with anyone who’s going to Cannes Lions or is curious about his marketing philosophies.

My name is Stefania Boleso and my medium is marketing. I am a marketing strategist and university lecturer living in Milan, Italy.
Marketing isn’t just my profession, it’s my passion. Over the years, my intense curiosity and some wonderful work experience have helped me develop a great deal of marketing know-how, both traditional and digital (and I am still learning!).
As “sharing is caring,” I also teach post-grads and lecture to professionals who share my passion for marketing and communication.
I also blog about best practices, dos and don’ts and some remarkable marketing activities at stefaniaboleso.com.
I love photography, art, fashion—basically everything that has to do with creativity. It inspires me both from a personal and professional point of view, and I think you can tell from my magazines!
My Flipboard profile is https://flipboard.com/@stefaniaboleso
What drew you to Flipboard?
I was looking for a virtual place where I could collect all my passions, a place where I could save all the interesting stuff I normally find around the web, with the possibility to go back to this content later, when I wanted or needed it. Flipboard was the perfect solution.
What are you using Flipboard for?
I am using it for my two passions: my job and my personal interests (which often overlap…). Whenever I find something that’s inspiring or useful for me, I immediately flip it.
What’s your favorite thing about Flipboard?
Flipboard is an enormous source of inspiration—and I love being inspired! I not only save what I scout on the Web, I also let Flipboard Picks inspire me, and I have to say I found some very interesting pieces of content there!
What is the value of Flipboard as a portfolio?
I have not created any magazines showcasing my work. Still, I think my profile and some of my magazines can still work as a kind of visual résumé: you can tell from what I flip what kind of person I am and what I am interested in.
What’s your favorite magazine or publisher on Flipboard?
One of my favorite publishers at the moment is Dazed: as I said before, I have a strong passion for everything that has to do with creativity, and here you can find a lot!
Amy Vernon is a journalist, digital news consultant and leading member of the Flipboard Club. Today she is the CMO and co-founder of Predictable.ly, a predictive analytics platform for news publishers and content producers. My name is Beki Winchel, and I’m the co-editor of PR Daily as well as a social media and PR geek, author, entrepreneur, traveler, fangirl and technophile.
In regards to PR Daily, I work with my co-editor to publish the articles you see on the site each day, curate and write about current PR and social media trends and manage PR Daily’s Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Flipboard profiles. I also moderate #RaganSocial, PR Daily’s weekly Twitter chat.
I use Flipboard as a newsreader, RSS feed, wishlist, article repository, content marketing tool, entertainment source and stress outlet. Flipboard is such a great curation tool that it’s easy to use it for a multitude of tasks.
I love how you can flip a mixture of pictures, GIFs, products, social media posts and articles. One can—and many have—created entire catalogues on a specific subject, even weird niches (I have “Geek Etsy” and Linda Bernstein has a catalogue all about the middle ages.)
Other magazines inform and entertain in an interactive, visual way. With every single event—whether it’s breaking news, such as Nepal’s earthquake, or a scheduled occurrence, such as SXSW, I can find magazines that keep me updated on all the news. It definitely helps with FOMO.
I started using Flipboard as another curation tool. As an early adopter (thanks to Aida B. and The Flipboard Club), so many of my magazines were experiments to see what the platform offered.
It was cool to be able to flip a magazine full of nerdy GIFs or create a wedding album for Edward and Bella Cullen. You can create anything from a party magazine that include recipes, products, pictures and instructional articles to a visually appealing resume of all your articles, designs and thoughtful social media features. It’s really awesome to see what people come up with.
The first magazine I ever created was “Dogs in Hats.” I have a Pinterest board of these, so I just had to have a flippable magazine of dogs wearing hats and costumes. It never fails to make me laugh, even after a long day.
I also remember creating “Love Sucks” in response to everyone creating these great, touching Valentine’s Day magazines. It stuck, and I still find myself chuckling as I find things that speak to the single life.
The best article I read all week was a Huffington Post article positing the majority of addiction wasn’t chemically based, but rather a result of environmental situations and lack of bonding. I brought it up to a friend of mine when we were driving up to the city and we had a good discussion about it and related studies.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is impossible to pinpoint. As a PR Daily editor, I regularly follow social media, PR, marketing, advertising and crisis communication, writing and editing topics. For the book I just finished, I followed specific social media platform developments and branded case studies, and I love reading topics related to technology, journalism, entrepreneurship, business and various nerdy things.
I love the fact that Flipboard’s algorithm doesn’t judge me for following a bunch of geeky topics, but instead, just offers me more and more until I’m in deep between the Marvel Universe and Harry Potter spinoffs.
A magazine I’ve found on Flipboard that’s made my life better is “TV’s Other Worlds” by Miguel Lopez. I could list the plethora of magazines which I love for communications industry news or those that are filled with thought-provoking articles, but let’s be honest here: I want the scoop on what happened in the latest “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” or “Gotham” episode, and what I can look forward to. For example: did you know that “Jem” is coming to Vimeo?!
This post was brought to you by Andy Meek, a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in Fast Company, The Guardian and Buzzfeed.

Spotlight: Wine Maker/Entrepreneur Chad Richardhttps://vi-vn.about.flipboard.com/magmaker/spotlight-wine-makerentrepreneur-chad-richardMy name is Chad Richard and I am passionate about wine, music, photography, technology and startups. My winery, Furthermore, is an exclusively pinot noir focused label and Flipboard is how I keep up with what’s happening in the world of wine.
I start my day with Flipboard on my iPad catching up on the news in general, before feeding my magazine, Bon Vivant, with my favorite articles related to wine and food. I find myself continually returning to Flipboard throughout the day usually on my iPhone while I am on the go.
The first article I flipped was “What to drink with raw oysters” from SF Gate.
The best article I read all week was about U.S. wine regions with a unique claim to fame. It’s really cool how people are making good wines all over the U.S. and world these days.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is time-lapse photography. There is an amazingly talented community of photographers globally creating gorgeous work.
A magazine that’s made my life better is The Visual News. I love to see what’s happening as opposed to having to read everything. Maybe I’m just lazy!
My biggest influence is great entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and Robert Mondavi. These guys created industries and culture. I also really admire creative forces including filmmakers such as Wes Anderson and David Fincher and musicians like Miles Davis, Thom Yorke, Björk and Neil Young. These artists are able to create something that a large, diverse audience can all really feel and benefit from. That’s cool.
My “media diet” includes Flipboard to navigate the otherwise overwhelming numerous source of news on the web. Wine Spectator and National Geographic are the only magazine subscriptions that I have not migrated to digital delivery. I absolutely love audiobooks and am a big fan of Audible. I am a big music collector—vinyl for jazz and everything else via iTunes, where I tend to be obsessively organized with rating songs and tagging them with genres and making all sorts of smart playlists based on all that metadata. Netflix on my iPad is my source for the minimal TV watching that my wife and I do. Like many other people, I know Game of Thrones, House of Cards and Mad Men top my must-watch list. I can probably live without the rest of television content, especially broadcast news.
A unique productivity tip of mine is I try to share my goals and intentions with others who will help ensure that I make them happen.

Spotlight: Man of Many Editor-in-Chief Scott Purcellhttps://vi-vn.about.flipboard.com/magmaker/spotlight-man-of-many-editor-in-chief-scott-purcellMy name is Scott Purcell and I’m the co-founder and editor of manofmany.com, a men’s gear blog focused on the latest in products, culture and style.
My love of technology and the coolest products led us to start Man of Many. We are a giant wishlist of all the cool gear a guy could possibly want, and we cover everything from gadget reviews, the latest fashion styles, men’s interest articles, cool videos, interviews with interesting people and more.
I use Flipboard as my source of creative inspiration, to seek out new and exciting gear and stay in touch with the latest happenings in men’s style. It’s way more convenient to find all your favorite blogs, sites and reads in the one spot rather than having to visit each site separately.
The first article I flipped was “Windows 8,” which is the very first product that we featured on our blog. I guess this tells you a lot about myself. I’ve always been into technology and a massive PC fan (over Apple) so I think it’s probably an appropriate product to also be first in our Flipboard magazine.
The best article I read all week was Wired’s story on the secret history of the Apple Watch. It was a beautiful piece of online editorial that was interactive but still delivered the core history behind designing and making the Apple Watch.
We want to emulate this kind of story on our site and make our stories a lot more vivid than just a boring list of top products.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is probably an easy guess but it’s Men’s Style. Our love for men’s gear is the sole reason behind why we started Man of Many, a site to celebrate products for men with myriad tastes and a preference for all things quality. This topic is a great place to find inspiration for articles.
A magazine I’ve found on Flipboard that’s made my life better is “Freshome.” I always find inspiration here for my dream house that I could never afford.
My biggest influence is Kevin Rose. I love his approach to life in general. He never let his ego get too big for himself and is always willing to learn from those who’ve succeeded. This is exemplified in his Foundation YouTube series where he interviews famous entrepreneurs on how they got their start and found success.
My “media diet” includes some of my favorite men’s gear blogs like Four Pins, HiConsumption, Gear Patrol, Acquire Mag, Bless This Stuff, Need Supply, Huckberry, Cool Material, Highsnobiety, Hypebeast and Uncrate.

My name is Christopher Gierlich and my love of digital design, patterns and the convergence of ideas from different disciplines fuels me in a practical way as I guide a group of User Experience Architects designing websites, apps and social media experiences for DDB New York, a worldwide marketing communications network.
I have hundreds of Flipboard magazines, search terms, Twitter handles and social media accounts, all capturing content across a wide range of interests. I started by contributing to other Flipboard magazines as a curator and keeping a private magazine for my own favorites. For the benefit of my colleagues, I started a Flipboard magazine for our group and followers.
I think of Flipboard as a way to give shape to the range of thinking I want to encourage from my colleagues. Don’t look for ideas in narrow places; connect things like art, architecture, technology, handcrafts, photography, dance, finance and social movements into a single tapestry. Reach for these ideas the next time you need to make something that reflects the world we live in today.
The best article I read all week was about gorgeous Balinese bamboo architecture. The point of view that simple bamboo structures can bring to much larger and well-funded design or architecture efforts is why the world is amazing if you look for these sorts of treasures.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is where tech, society and personal experience affect each other to cause changes. This can be a design topic, or about tech startups or thinkers and leaders.
A magazine I’ve found on Flipboard that’s made my life better is The Atlantic, for always being just ahead of the curve on what really matters.
My biggest influence is Elon Musk, who has a vision then doesn’t hesitate to make it happen.
My “media diet” includes documentaries, podcasts, some sports, music, biographies, history, art, graphic novels, photography and a lot of news and politics.
A unique productivity tip of mine is about making a good idea out of a lot of source material—get it all in one place, like a mindmap, and group things until the idea emerges right in front of you.

My name is Elliot Volkman and my love of brewing beer and technology have a huge impact on my life. On one hand, beer is the oldest transcribed recipe known to man, and on the other technology is pushing us through the future. Eventually I want to open a “Librewery” and merge these two worlds together.
I use Flipboard as a way to get the latest news, curate news, identify what we should share from the Modev Twitter account and learn about the latest tech gadgets.
The best article I read all week was definitely this piece on Pebble standing up to Apple in the smartwatch race. They may not have been the first, but their product team clearly understands what people want, and that’s why the underdog has such a dedicated and growing fan base.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is Technology! Anything from Internet of Things to wearables is my sweet spot. Secondary would be games. The mobile world is really starting to consume us, and it’s interesting to see what companies will come up with next to get us connected. I’m of course a bit biased because I work in the space with Modev, but I love that the world around us is becoming a smaller place due to technology. It’s really more about the knowledge share than the shiny objects.
A magazine I’ve found on Flipboard that’s made my life better is—can I choose my own? Every morning I go through the Modev Flipboard and schedule out the most awesome mobile content to break up our content and interviews and use it as part of our social strategy. You have no idea how much time this saves me—we curate the best content using Flipboard, then share from our various feeds to keep folks updated on the biggest news in mobile.
Besides that, Hillel Fuld has some really awesome ones from Mobile Ad Tech to Cool Gadgets. Mentioning Scoble is like cheating, but of course his magazines rock as well.
My biggest influence is Bruce Campbell. His mighty chin and amazing B-movie acting skills lead to numerous life lessons. Currently though, Pete Erickson (my boss guy) is leading the charge. It’s interesting to work with someone who shares a similar vision, but has greater insight into everything I’ve been trying to develop. As a result Modev has been an awesome ride so far.
My “media diet” includes local Fox 5 DC station every morning during the week, reddit for far too many hours than I care to admit, Flipboard every night before go to sleep, and Twitter throughout the day. There are a bunch of blogs that I follow as well, like Seth Godin’s blog, Screen Rant, FeverBee, and nutritionfor.us (because I’m the occasional hand model on there).
A unique productivity tip of mine is never drink until 4pm. Oh, that and using the tool Asana. I more or less plot everything in my life in there. From work to personal stuff, it’s been a better way of keeping track of projects and life.

My name is Clayton Morris and my medium is the news—both of the technological and paranormal variety.
I use Flipboard as my morning newspaper. I scan the news from all of my favorite sources. Some I read right then and there, and some I save to ReadQuick, my speed-reading app for iOS.
The first article I flipped was an article about a UFO sighting in Mexico, which I flipped into my magazine, The Paranormal Post.
The best article I read all week was an article about how researchers believe we should be able to live to 1,000 years old. In fact, they believe the first person to live to a 1,000 is already alive today.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is paranormal news.
A magazine I’ve found on Flipboard that’s made my life better is “Getting Things Done,” a magazine for living productively.
My biggest influence is John Gruber, a great writer whom I also consider to be a good friend. His website Daring Fireball is a master lesson in simplicity. He remains laser-focused on the written word and everything else is removed. I admire his commitment to the essence of his craft. Whenever I get off track with some shiny object syndrome I drop over to his website and it helps me refocus.
As a host on the national morning show “FOX and Friends,” my “media diet” includes a boat load of news on Flipboard in order to be ahead of the curve. There’s also a lot of Netflix, live sports, Game of Thrones, The Americans, The Flash, Daredevil.
But I’m pretty sure I listen to podcasts more than anything else. For seven years I’ve been hosting my own podcast (The Grizzly Bear Egg Cafe) so I’m partial to the podcast medium.
I spend 3-4 hours online/reading/watching TV, etc., and my main sources are The Mac Power Users Podcast, The Epic Real Estate Investing podcast, Real Estate Investing Mastery Podcast, iMore.com, The Talk Show with John Gruber, Daring Fireball, The New York Times, and The Atlantic.
A unique productivity tip of mine is transcendental meditation. Sitting quietly for 20 minutes twice a day has changed my life. I get more done, I’m more focused and stress falls away.

My name is Daniel Mager and I’m a boom operator on TV & Film productions here in the UK. I’m also involved in the music scene through djing, promoting and producing.
I use Flipboard primarily as a newsfeed, but also as an online environment for sourcing, curating and then sharing music and art that I love. More recently I’ve started to use Flipboard as a repository for articles I may find useful when travelling, cooking or purchasing products. These amazing functions, along with the ability to connect with your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds, makes Flipboard an indispensable part of my online life.
I’m addicted to sharing information, and flip like its going out of fashion, so cannot for life of me remember the first article I flipped, though it was most likely something to do with Apple products, obscure 1970’s Nigerian funk or cats.
My favorite topic on Flipboard is currently anything related to Vietnam as I intend to travel around that beautiful country later in the year. I’m also obsessed with Liverpool F.C. so have created a magazine to share my love of the greatest football team in the world!
In one word, I’d describe Flipboard as essential. As a creative person, with a short concentration span and terrible memory, I am constantly using Flipboard to save interesting articles on emerging music and audio technology, which I can then read later and incorporate into my playlists.
I consume a huge amount of information so giving you the best article I have read all week is difficult, at a push though I would say it has to be the Esquire review of the Late Late Show performance by an amazing young artist from Fort Worth, Texas by the name of Leon Bridges. This guy is the new Sam Cooke!
A magazine I’ve found on Flipboard that’s made my life better is MUSIC by @comedybingbong. This person is so on point with new music and definitely deserves more exposure. I also really like the VICE mag, which always has interesting articles on all things creative and kooky. Finally, for non-bias news I go to The Guardian, a great British institution!
